September 2, 2019 – Silverstone, United Kingdom – Will Owen finished 8th at the 4 Hours of Silverstone, the fourth round of the Europeans Le Mans Series with United Autosports in the LMP2 category.
Teammate, Alex Brundle took on qualifying and placed the No. 32 United Autosports Ligier JS P217 in 10th place for the start of the 4-hour race. The green flag waved with Ryan Cullen behind the wheel for the first stint and charged through a heavy downpour that blanked the field. 20-minutes into the race Cullen suffered a trip through the gravel and fell back to 16th place. Cullen was able to get up to 15th before handing the No. 32 over to Owen one-fourth of the way through the event.
Owen’s stint started with serving a drive-through penalty from a yellow flag indiscretion earlier in the race but was able to move up to 11th place by the halfway mark. The 24-year-old pushed hard through the traffic of 39 entrants and maximize the pace of the No. 32 United Autosports machine before Brundle entered the fight. Brundle continued making his way through the field to cross the finish line in 8th place.
Owen will be back to racing at the next round of the European Le Mans Series with United Autosports at Spa-Francorchamps on September 22, 2019.
Will Owen – Driver
“We were far down at the beginning having lost time for a lot of different reasons. Penalties, a nose change, a lot of stuff but overall I enjoyed my stint. It’s fun to drive this track. I think we had the set-up nailed down and did the best that we could.”
