Will Owen Prepares to Fight for First Rolex 24 Hour Title at Daytona
January 24, 2019 – Daytona, Florida – Will Owen joins Juncos Racing in Florida this weekend for the first race of the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The global racing event will be the first race for Owen in the DPi class after several pre-season tests with Juncos Racing in their #50 Cadillac DPi-V.R machine. There will be eleven DPi entries competing with some of the most well-known names in racing such as Fernando Alonso, Kamui Kobayashi, and Owen’s former teammate from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Juan Pablo Montoya. The DPi class will be joined on track by three other categories which will fill the track with a total of 47 cars during the 24-hour spectacle.
Juncos Racing may be new to IMSA, but they bring a tremendous amount of experience from IndyCar, Indy Lights, and Pro Mazda where Owen competed with the Indianapolis based organization in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Owen will lead his teammates as the only one with experience in sportscars and driving at Daytona International Speedway. Owen finished 3rd at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 4th at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2018. Teammates Kyle Kaiser, Rene Binder, and Agustin Canapino will join the twenty-three-year-old in the hopes of winning the title of Rolex 24 Hour Champions and take home a brand-new Rolex watch.
Track activities began this morning with two practice sessions and will be followed by qualifying. Qualifying for the DPi class will be held from 4:25-4:40 P.M. EST, which will determine the #50 Cadillac DPi-V.R machine’s position for the start of the race. The fourth practice session will be held tomorrow morning for the Argentinian team to make last minute adjustments and allow Owen and his teammates a final chance to feel the car and the 3.56-mile track. Saturday afternoon at 2:35 P.M. EST the 57th running of the 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona will go green.

Will Owen – Driver
#50 Juncos Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R machine
“It’s finally time to race with Juncos again! I’m glad to be back in a green car after taking a few years off! After we spent some time at the shop, I am feeling confident about our chances at the Rolex 24. We nailed down our driver changes and clarified all the procedures that we will use in the race. Now it’s time to focus and hope for the best! I can’t thank every crew member enough for hustling so hard to get us prepared and ready for this amazing event. Starting the season off with a 24-hour race is not easy, but with the help I have received from Cadillac and Juncos I feel totally prepared. I genuinely think we have the chance to succeed in this year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona!”
