Located in Montmeló, 32 km north of the city of Barcelona, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was opened on 10 September 1991. It was a project driven by the Catalan Government, the Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia and the Montmeló Town Council. The Circuit hosted the first race only five days after the inauguration and is home of the Spanish Grand Prix for both Formula One and MotoGP.
ELMS returns to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya after a ten year absence. The 1000km of Catalunya was held in April 2009 for the Le Mans Series.
